Rob's Track Report

A tight, demanding but satisfying circuit, Albert Park has a little of everything. From fast straights and almost flat switch backs, to tight first gear corners, it generally belies its street circuit status.

It is important to be smooth here and to set the car up to have high downforce and good traction out of slow corners, because there is a lot of them! Many corners do not have ripple strips on their exit and some do without at their apex, so it is essentially that care can be taken with the right foot so the car does not become unbalanced.

Also, letting the car settle in transition during direction change is essential here, or expect to spear off and make contact with the scenery! There are one or two unforgiving places at Albert Park, and an unsettled car or ragged driving style is sure to introduce you to them.

Be sure not to be drawn into braking too late here also, as you will lose opportunities to increase straight line speed by being slow to get on the loud pedal at the exit of the many opening corners.

Albert Park also has bumps in braking areas, some are very unforgiving, so paying extra attention to brake bias adjustments is always worth the effort.

Melbourne is a challenging circuit and a wonderful place to kick off the season. I look forward to doing well here as it is my home circuit and one I have done many laps at.
