Rob's Track Report

Canada is an interesting little circuit which is a lot more difficult than its fairly simple layout suggests. Setup here is very important. Drivers need to have good front end grip for the whole race, as the Island Hairpin after the start line, and the Pits Hairpin on the other side of the circuit are crucial to a fast lap.

It's easy to outbrake yourself at this place. Many very very fast sections of track come to an end at fairly slow chicanes or hairpins, and it's easy to end up in one of the gravel traps. It's a great track though because its easy to build a rhythm here and to lap consisently on or around the same lap times for many laps on end.

Also, there are heaps of overtaking opportunities here, most on long flat out sections of track, but also in braking areas leading into the many slow corners.

A fast and sometimes frustrating place to find balance, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (named after Jacques' dad, who was a wild and legendary Ferrari driver of the late 70s and early 80s before tragically being killed at Zolder in practice for the 1982 Belgium Grand Prix) is also fun and rewarding. This is sure to be a competitive week of racing. Watch for the fast guys times here, as this is a circuit which rewards analogue controllers and good setup.
